Description

After pickup from your location in Amman, settle into your private, air-conditioned vehicle with your private driver. The impressive emptiness and magical beauty of the desert will accompany your journey south. You will arrive in Petra before noon and meet your local guide.

Located at an ancient crossroads of trading routes, Petra was built more than 2,000 years ago by the Nabataean people, who carved the city buildings directly into the rose sandstone cliffs, inside the steep valley of Wadi Musa. The engineering techniques introduced by the Nabateans to adapt to the harsh desert conditions are highly advanced and are studied by experts worldwide.

After around two hours of exploring the hidden beauties of the site, return to Petra’s entrance and rejoin your private vehicle and driver. Then, journey back to Amman, where your day trip ends with a drop-off in Amman.

Day tour to Petra

Pick up in Amman, morning departure via the desert high way to Petra for a full day visit of the city. We will start our journey to explore Petra, aptly described as the “rose-red city, half as old as time”. The ancient city was founded by the Nabateans 2000 years ago. Its massive architectural structure and its multicolored stones are an incredible attraction. The visit of the ancient Nabatean capital starts on horseback, followed by a walk through the Siq, a long narrow fissure between two overhanging cliffs. Towards the end of the Siq, you will be spellbound by Petra’s most famous monument; the Treasury. The tour then proceeds to gradually unfold the mysteries of the city. Afternoon transfer back to Amman. (No accommodation booked).

  • Transfers as per above itinerary in a private modern air-conditioned large sized car with English speaking driver (car is not at disposal after the day tour ends, your driver is not a guide). Car has complimentary WiFi and mineral water, you will also be supplied with a local mobile phone.
  • Optional short horse ride in Petra. (Please note that the horse handler expects a tip if you do take the horse ride)
  • Private tour of Petra with a local guide (tour length is 2 hours, and covers the lower parts of Petra).
  • Entrance fees to all sites as per the above itinerary.
