Explore three of Jordan’s most important historical sites with this day trip to Jerash, Ajlun and Amman City Tour. The most complete and well preserved city of the Roman Empire.

Jerash is one of the Decapolis cities to the north of Amman. During the Roman Empire it was often called “Pompoeii of the East”, which indicates the great example of Roman urbanization. A journey through time walking its streets, theaters, temples and places among the great colonnade, the Arc de Triumph, the Oval Plaza and the temples of Zeus and Artemis.

Continue to the city of Ajlun visit the Medieval Castle of Ajlun built by the Muslims during the 12th Century in the time of Saladin for defensive purposes during the crusaders. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and green north fields from its unique towers.

There are two theories for the name of Ajlun either (iron) as there was iron material in the area or because it was built on top of a monastery after the priest name. Drive back to Amman  to see the antiquities at Amman Citadel and Archaeological Museum, visit the 2nd-century Roman Theater.

Day tour to Ajlun, Jerash and Amman City Tour

Pick up in Amman. Depart Amman to visit the town of Ajlun with its fortress; one of the best preserved examples of medieval Arab military architecture in the entire Middle East, which was once governed by Saladin. Enjoy the magnificent view into the Jordan Valley. Proceed to visit the Greco-Roman City of Jerash, also known as the City of the thousand columns. Jerash showcases the grandeur of Imperial Rome (and is sometimes referred to as the Pompeii of the East). It is considered one of the largest, and most well preserved sites of Roman architecture in the World outside Italy. As the most pristine Decapolis City (meaning ten cities in Greek) in the modern world, Jerash’s prosperity can be admired in the colonnaded main street and lovely Oval Piazza. In the afternoon transfer back to Amman for the City Tour. Visit the ruins of the Amman Roman theatre, the Citadel and the Umayyad Palace. The tour includes visits to the Archaeological and Folklore Museums. Free time for walking in the old down town area of the city and transfer back to the hotel. (No accommodation booked).
